Savoring Summer - Labor Day Weekend

Bath, Maine - area summer activities continue!

A holiday weekend, one of the bittersweet milestones as summer winds down… but with some absolutely fantastic weather on tap, this is no time to slow down. Why not kick it off Thursday, August 31st at 4pm with our Downtown Walking Tour.

Fancy some live music? All weekend long in nearby Brunswick, you can check out the Thomas Point Bluegrass Festival - amazing music in a stunning ocean-side setting.

My co-worker and friend Terri snapped this incredible pic of a humpback whale playing off Pond Island, near Seguin Island, at the entrance to the Kennebec River, near Bath, Maine.

On Friday, September 1st, join our 4pm Downtown Bath Walking Tour. Also on Friday, the Summer Music Series at Library Park continues with the Bath Swing Band performing at 6:30pm. Enjoy this free concert on the lawn - pick up dinner to go at Solo Pane, The Fountain, Sisters. Or dine before or after any of Bath’s restaurants… Like J.R. Maxwell’s - order the Haddock Sandwich and $$ goes to support Maine’s First Ship! Or, Byrne’s Irish Pub - a recent tour participant raved about their Celtic Caesar Salad with Pastrami Encrusted Smoked Salmon!

On Saturday morning, from 8:30-12 noon the Bath Farmers’ Market will be at Waterfront Park, as usual. Will we start to see some fall produce? 🎃 Also that morning, our Downtown Bath Walking Tour begins at 9:30am and we will finish in time to get you back to the market!

Buy your tickets for what promises to be a night to remember in Bath! You will want to tell your grandchidlren about it!

On Saturday (or any day), consider a boat ride out to Seguin Island. Humpback whales (see pic at right) have been spotted all around Pond Island and Sheepscot Bay. Maybe you will see one! But on a visit to Seguin, you will definitely get a chance to see the United States’ 2nd lighthouse (commissioned by George Washington), at the mouth of the historic Kennebec River. Thousands of ships have used Seguin (the Wabanaki word for turtle - inspired by the island’s shape) to mark their course. Join them!

On Saturday evening at 8pm, check out Comedy Night at the Bath Golf Club. Three great local comedians - come early and dine at Long Reach Kitchen, the Club’s restaurant. Buy tickets here.

On Sunday, September 3rd, join all of Bath in supporting Main Street Bath - the tireless nonprofit that brings so much to our city! “All About Joel” - a Billy Joel tribute band, will be rocking the Waterfront Park - dancing is required! Doors open at 5:30 and music begins at 7:30. Learn more here and buy tickets here. You can watch some fun promo videos I made to get you in the mood!

Bath Book Bash on Saturday, September 9th, 2023 will feature 35 authors and YOU at picturesque Library Park in Bath, Maine. Photo of the 2022 “Draw Off!” competition between illustrators.

And for some more WINNING wildcards to add to your weekend/week mix any time, visit some more of our 2023 award-winning businesses according to Down East Magazine: Reny’s (Best Bargain Store), Loyal Biscuit & Co. (Best Pet Store), and Highbrow (best Cannabis shop). And check out Nest in nearby Brunswick (best Decor Store). Oh-and did you see Mockingbird Bookshop featured in the N E W Y O R K T I M E S???

Looking ahead … next Friday, September 8th at 7:30, at the Chocolate Church, join me and my friends in the audience for comedian Robert Mac. Also, Saturday, September 9th is the Bath Book Bash - an all day festival celebrating children’s books with dozens of nationally known best-selling authors, games, workshops, food trucks, and an author panel led by moi! All free, and at the Patten Free Library. Later that day, head to the Maine Maritmie Museum for their annual “Pints on the Pier” event - that’s right, relax on the river, taste a ton of local beers, listen to great music. A lot to look forward to!
