Maine Total Solar Eclipse

Maine Total Solar Eclipse

Maine is lucky to get to experience a total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. Bath will experience a partial eclipse, but the thing to do if you are able is drive a bit north and maybe west for the full experience. The weather (no cloud cover) looks GREAT which is somewhat unexpected. The state has information for visitors, as well as the University of Maine. The map below is from Great American Eclipse, a great (ha, ha!) overall site for eclipse information.

Lots of Maine towns and cities are putting on special events, including Houlton (which very cleverly grabbed the URL “maineeclipse.com”), Caribou, Presque Isle and Dover-Foxcroft.

We were in Bath for a partial eclipse in 2017. Below is my friend Monica at Waterfront Park, looking safely at the sun with her eclipse glasses. My husband was out on his sailboat and viewed the event from the water.

The last total solar eclipse in Maine was in 1963, and before that in 1932; and the next one is in 2079. So grateful for the good forecast. ☀️🌑
